Honest resident agent representation in Massachusetts for $99/year. Includes the address used on filings, same-day scanning of legal mail, and reminders for state deadlines.

The seller wrote this. Massachusetts Registered Agent.co offers the $99 service set against Swyft Filings below and benefits when the comparison lands our way. The Swyft Filings numbers are their published figures, recorded in July 2026, and the only operation performed on them here is multiplication.

Their Filing Speed Is a Legitimate Product

Swyft Filings sells velocity and guided formation, and it does that competently for founders who want the process handled rather than explained to them. Nothing below concerns how well the company performs that work. It concerns the unit its agent price is quoted in.

A Quarter Is Not a Year

Registered agent service is $149 billed quarterly. Stretch that across twelve months and the figure reaches roughly $596, with no separate first-year reduction turning up anywhere in our review. Both facts come off their own material.

Quarterly quoting is not deceptive, but it does exploit a reliable habit. Buyers compare registered agent services on annual figures, because the obligation itself is annual, so a number quoted per quarter enters that comparison at a quarter of its true weight unless the reader multiplies first. Multiply first.

$99, once a year, and the renewal notice carries the identical figure. Included: process served at our Massachusetts office is imaged the same day, email alerts fire on receipt, our street address stands on the public record, the portal is open around the clock, and reminders track your anniversary. One optional add-on exists, $15 per item for scanning general business mail, and it is published here rather than introduced later.

The cheapest published price in the Commonwealth is BetterLegal's $90, not ours. What we can defend is narrower. Ours is one of the lower flat annual figures published for Massachusetts, and it is quoted in the unit the obligation is actually measured in.

The Complete Massachusetts Procedure for Dropping Swyft Filings

Massachusetts has never been a cheap state to operate in, which is what makes the free exit unexpected. The Certificate of Organization under M.G.L. c. 156C § 12 is $500 by mail or hand delivery. Send it electronically or by fax and the figure becomes $520, because a $20 expedite fee attaches to those routes whether or not you asked for speed. The annual report repeats the same pair of figures every year the company survives.

Against that, the agent change is free, provided it goes in electronically.

The document carries a long name: Statement of Change of Resident Agent/Resident Office. Massachusetts assigns it no number, so that title does the identifying, and the Commonwealth uses the term resident agent where most states say registered agent. It is filed with the Corporations Division within the office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Filing channel Fee
Electronic $0
Mail or in person $25
Fax $25, plus a $6 expedite charge

The procedure in full:

  1. Retain the successor agent and obtain its Massachusetts name and street address. A post office box does not qualify as an agent's office here.
  2. Enter your LLC's registered name exactly as it stands on the state record, then the successor's details.
  3. File electronically with the Corporations Division. Nothing is charged.
  4. Look up your entity record and check that the successor now appears on it.
  5. Cancel the Swyft Filings quarterly billing once, and only once, that confirmation exists.

Timing is unconstrained. No filing window applies, no seasonal restriction exists, and nothing requires you to wait for a quarter to close, so a change filed in week two of a paid quarter is processed exactly like one filed in week twelve. What is constrained is the order. The statement names an incoming agent, meaning the appointment has to exist before the filing does, and the previous arrangement should outlive the filing rather than end before it. Handled that way the resident agent field never sits empty for a single business day. Our Massachusetts change of agent guide sets out the form line by line.
